Comments: My experience with Marshall Middle School has been terrible. The counseling staff does not care about student mental health. Marvella Matias Segovia has completely failed as a school counselor. She lets students get harassed without any consequences. The overall school environment is hostile and dangerous. Police and ambulances have come to the campus multiple times. The administration and staff are completely failing to keep our children safe.

I do not appreciate anything about the approach of the school counselor, Marvella Matias Segovia. She has shown a complete lack of care and professionalism when it comes to my daughter's safety and well-being. My daughter faces constant racial harassment and bullying at Marshall Middle School, yet Ms. Segovia completely ignores our cries for help. She does nothing to address the racist nicknames targeting my daughter's skin color, and she dismisses our concerns when we report them. Her absolute refusal to support student mental health or protect targeted children makes her an ineffective and unhelpful counselor.
Are there any areas where you believe the staff could improve in supporting your child's needs or fostering a positive school environment?
The staff must improve in major ways to protect students. Counselor Marvella Matias Segovia needs to take bullying seriously. She must stop ignoring active racial harassment on campus. The staff needs to foster a safe environment for all children. They must protect students from targeted skin color insults. They must stop dismissing parents when we report these safety issues.
Can you share an example of a positive and/or negative interaction or experience you’ve had with the school staff?
I have had deeply negative experiences with the school staff. My daughter faces constant racial bullying at Marshall Middle School. Other students mock her skin color and use cruel nicknames. They refuse to call her by her actual name. I reported this directly to counselor Marvella Matias Segovia. She did absolutely nothing to fix the situation. She completely brushed our concerns aside and ignored my daughter's distress.
