We have been incredibly grateful to have Ms. La Roche this year. Middle school can be a really tough transition socially and academically, but her classroom always feels like a safe, encouraging space where the kids genuinely want to learn. She does a wonderful job representing the high academic standards that neighborhood families expect from Rogich. If your child is lucky enough to get placed in her class, they are going to come out of it much stronger writers and more critical thinkers.

What do you appreciate most about the teacher’s approach to teaching and engaging with your child?

Ms. La Roche is easily one of the most impactful teachers my child has ever had at Rogich. She does an amazing job of turning what could be dense honors material into something the kids are genuinely excited to talk about. She brings so much positive energy to the classroom instead of just lecturing, and she treats the middle schoolers with a lot of mutual respect and kindness. She has this unique ability to build up their writing confidence while preparing them perfectly for high school honors tracks. My child actually looks forward to her class every single day.

What improvements, if any, would you suggest to enhance your child’s learning experience in this class?

Honestly, there is very little to complain about with how she runs her classroom specifically. The only real issue is the systemic district overcrowding she is forced to deal with. Her honors classes can get incredibly large, which makes it tough for any teacher to give regular, individualized feedback on long-form writing pieces. I would love to see the district provide smaller class sizes so excellent teachers like her have more breathing room to work one-on-one with the kids.

Is there anything specific about the teacher’s approach that has made a positive and/or negative impact on your child’s development or academic progress?

Her consistent use of high-interest vocabulary tracks and structured writing prompts has had a massive positive impact on my child. She treats the kids like young adults and holds them accountable, which really boosted my child's confidence and study habits as they get ready for high school. I haven't noticed any negative impacts. She manages to balance a highly rigorous honors curriculum with a lot of patience and fairness.
