After spending a long tenure at this institution, I want to offer an honest look at its current state. The school possesses incredible raw ingredients: a wonderful student body, dedicated families, a lovely natural setting, and highly skilled educators. Unfortunately, much of this potential goes unfulfilled due to a restrictive institutional culture. Decision-making is tightly controlled by executive leadership, leaving faculty with very little influence over the school's direction. Instead of fostering collaboration and innovation, the current climate encourages staff to keep their heads down to avoid professional consequences. This has caused talented educators to lose their drive, causing a noticeable drop in morale. Furthermore, strategic growth has stalled. The campus facilities remain small and outdated. While the location is charming, the school has historically relied on being the only international option in the area rather than investing in modern facilities or academic programs. Now that a modern, purpose-built competitor has entered the market, this lack of development stands out clearly. Rather than adapting to this competition, the school seems resistant to change. Prospective teachers should do thorough research before signing a contract. Talk directly with current and past employees to ask about leadership accountability, staff turnover, and how feedback is handled. It is also wise to look into the newer local alternatives. Competition should be a wake-up call to improve, and I hope the school takes it seriously. However, given the long-standing patterns of management, I would advise educators to proceed with caution.

What do you appreciate most about the school’s approach to supporting teachers and creating a positive work environment?

The school’s greatest strength is its community. The students are wonderful to work with, the families are incredibly supportive, and there are many highly skilled, dedicated teachers on staff. The natural campus also offers a unique charm. However, the work environment would improve immensely if leadership focused on empowering faculty, opening up channels for transparent communication, and involving teachers in decision-making processes.

What areas of improvement do you think the school should focus on to better support its teachers?

The school needs to focus on four critical areas to better support its faculty and secure its long-term future: 1. Governance and Decentralized Leadership: Decision-making is currently far too centralized. The administration should establish clear, democratic structures that give teachers a meaningful voice in the school's strategic direction. Leadership should operate as a support system for educators on the ground, rather than a top-down bottleneck. 2. Culture of Open Communication: There is a pressing need to build a workplace culture where professional disagreement, innovation, and constructive feedback are actively welcomed. The school must eliminate the perception that speaking openly leads to professional consequences. Teachers need to feel psychologically safe and empowered to collaborate without fear of administrative blowback. 3. Campus Facilities and Resource Investment: Relying solely on the natural charm of the campus is no longer viable. The school must heavily invest in upgrading its small, dated buildings and modernizing classroom technology. Strategic funding should be directed toward classroom resources, updated educational programs, and robust professional development that genuinely aids career growth. 4. Administrative Accountability and Transparency: The institution needs transparent, consistent standards for evaluating performance across all levels, including administration. Morale suffers when persistent problems are ignored. Establishing clear accountability mechanisms will ensure that family and teacher concerns are openly recognized and addressed, rather than dismissed. With a modern competitor now in the local market, addressing these internal and structural gaps is essential for the school to remain viable and retain its most talented staff.

Can you share an example of how the school has positively and/or negatively impacted your teaching or the learning experience of your students?

On the positive side, working with such motivated students and supportive families has been incredibly rewarding. They are the main reason teachers work so hard. On the negative side, the rigid, top-down management style hurts staff morale. When teachers feel ignored or worry about professional blowback for speaking up, they become disengaged. This disconnect between what is happening in the classrooms and what the administration acknowledges directly harms the overall learning environment.
