King's College International School has everything it needs to be truly exceptional, including incredible students, wonderful families, and an unmatched team of brilliant educators. However, a school simply cannot thrive long-term if losing good people becomes a normal part of its culture. Beautiful buildings and clever marketing will only carry us so far. The solution is straightforward. Recruit excellent people, trust them, support them, and let them do the jobs they were hired to do. Personally, I have reached my limit and would not work here again, and I know many others feel the same. I genuinely hope ownership changes direction because this staff and student body deserve that success.

What do you appreciate most about the school’s approach to supporting teachers and creating a positive work environment?

The best part of this school comes entirely from the classrooms rather than the corporate governance. I deeply appreciate the outstanding, hardworking team of professionals I get to work alongside every day because it is truly the best teaching team I have ever been a part of. This exceptional peer support, paired with lovely, respectful students who genuinely want to learn, creates a fantastic daily environment on the ground. Our immediate senior leaders and line managers are also highly visible, approachable, and consistently supportive whenever challenges arise. It is just a shame that this incredible internal foundation is routinely undermined by a lack of trust and autonomy from the school's owners.

What areas of improvement do you think the school should focus on to better support its teachers?

The primary area of improvement is for the school owners to trust the professionals they hired to run the school. We need an end to the constant interference, second-guessing, and reactionary decisions from people who are far removed from classroom realities. Ownership also needs to stop letting a small handful of vocal, well-connected parents exert a disproportionate influence over school priorities. To stop the massive staff turnover and protect the school's future, the administration must prioritize teacher retention by giving experienced educators back their professional autonomy and respect.

Can you share an example of how the school has positively and/or negatively impacted your teaching or the learning experience of your students?

On the positive side, our immediate leadership and teaching teams work wonderfully together to create a deeply caring and collaborative environment that directly benefits our excellent students. On the negative side, the blurring of professional boundaries significantly hurts classroom morale. Experienced teachers are frequently denied the autonomy to use their professional judgment because decisions are heavily influenced by outside corporate ownership and entitled parents. While the school's facilities are top-notch for attracting talent, the lack of professional trust ultimately frustrates staff and drives them to leave, which hurts the long-term continuity of our students' learning.
